How to add logon screens in your CustoPack?

The logon screen appears when you start/shut off your computer or when you want to change the user.

  • Logon screen for Windows Vista or Windows 7

Change the Windows Vista or Windows 7 logon screen  simply boils down to modify an image like it was a background.

  1. In « Create a CustoPack » mode, click the left « Logon screen » then select Windows Vista or Windows 7 tab.

  2. Click « Browse » to download your image or your folder containing the same image in several resolutions (you can also drag an drop them).

  3. Complete the text fields « Name » « Author » et « Author's website ».

  4. Click « Add this logon ».

Information : it's recommended to add an image in several resolutions. A 4/3 (1600x1200), a 16/10 (1920x1200) resolution and a 16/9 (1920x1080) resolution. Our software will take charge of selecting the better resolution for the user screen. This avoids having a distorted logon screen.

Note: if you want to change the logon screen more in depth, you can edit images of « authui.dll » dll. Then you will just have to install this dll in the « DLL modifications » section of CustoPack Tools.

  • Logon screen for Windows XP

Change the Windows XP logon screen is more difficult. It isn't an ordinary image but it's an executable containing many settings and images.

If you want to create a Windows XP logon screen, you must have a good knowledge of customization of system files (for example with ResourceHacker).

Nevertheless Stardock suggests a software allowing users to easily create  a Windows XP logon screen: Logon Studio XP. You can download it at the following address: http://www.stardock.com/products/logonstudio/downloads.asp

Click « Apply »  after having created your logon screen. Then you can  recover the logonui.exe file generated by Logon Studio in your C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder. Copy this folder in another folder then rename it to « logonui.exe ». All is ready to install the file in your CustoPack:

  1. In « Create a CustoPack » mode, click the left « Logon screen » then select Windows XP tab.

  2. Click « Browse » to select the logonui.exe file (you can also drag an drop it).

  3. Complete the text fields « Name » « Author » et « Author's website ».

  4. Click « Add this logon ».
